A Day with the Carmelites: Come, Learn, Pray
Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Optional Mass at 8:00 a.m. in the Church.
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. (coffee and muffins available).

Patron Saint for the Day: St. John of the Cross

Theme: Lectio Divina and Contemplation
This mini-retreat includes teachings on Lectio Divina and contemplation, time for prayer, and fellowship. (Lectio Divina is a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading, meditation, and prayer.)
Guest Speakers are Brother Dustin Vu, OCD and Brother John Mark Charlesworth, OCD from St. Joseph’s Carmelite Monastery, San Jose. Brother John Mark comes to the Carmelite Order after serving 20 years in the Norbertine Order and has an interesting story. He brings a good amount of spiritual experience. Brother Dustin is young and knowledgeable.
Lunch is provided.
(Lunch will be a sandwich, chips, and fruit, cookie and water. This year we will add about 20 vegan sandwiches.)
Free will offering at the event.

Lunch is provided.
(Lunch will be a croissant sandwich, chips, and fruit cup.)
Guest speaker: Fr. Matthew Williams, O.C.D.
Fr. Matthew Williams, O.C.D., is a Discalced Carmelite priest who was born in Sacramento, CA, and grew up in San Diego, CA. He entered the Carmelites in 1982 and studied for the priesthood at the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology in Berkeley, CA. Ordained to the Priesthood in 1990, Fr. Matthew’s priestly ministry has included being a retreat director, pastor, Superior, and holding several administrative positions. Fr. Matthew is currently at the Oakville House of Prayer.
